Datadog Platform & Observability Architecture

Overview

Design and implement enterprise observability solutions across infrastructure, applications and networks, working with Datadog, cloud platforms, monitoring, automation and SRE practices. In this leadership role, you will define architecture blueprints, telemetry ingestion guidelines, cost-optimization strategies, and governance standards for complex multi-cloud and containerized deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the architecture and global deployment of Datadog across hybrid, multi-cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), and Kubernetes infrastructures.
  • Architect distributed tracing (APM), log management, synthetic monitoring, and network performance monitoring (NPM) frameworks.
  • Automate Datadog agent provisioning and lifecycle management via Kubernetes DaemonSets, Helm charts, and Terraform modules.
  • Establish telemetry governance, log retention pipelines, and custom metric ingestion filters to maximize observability ROI and control costs.
  • Formulate enterprise Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), alert hierarchies, and automated incident triage playbooks.
  • Design holistic executive and engineering dashboards correlating system metrics, business KPIs, and user experience.
  • Advise engineering teams on OpenTelemetry instrumentation, trace context propagation, and continuous profiling best practices.
  • Partner with security teams to integrate Datadog Cloud SIEM, Cloud Security Management (CSM), and compliance monitoring.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of total IT experience with an emphasis on enterprise observability, SRE, and cloud infrastructure architecture.
  • 5+ years of hands-on architecture and design expertise specifically using the Datadog ecosystem (APM, Logs, Metrics, Synthetics, NPM).
  • Advanced architecture experience with Kubernetes, microservices, container networking, and service mesh (Istio/Envoy).
  • Proven hands-on multi-cloud expertise across AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Deep proficiency in OpenTelemetry (OTel), custom telemetry exporters, and Datadog REST APIs/webhooks.
  • Strong command of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automated CI/CD pipeline automation (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins).
  • Excellent architectural documentation, stakeholder communication, and technical mentoring skills.

Good to Have

  • Datadog Technical Specialist, Solutions Architect, or related professional certification.
  • Proven track record executing tool consolidation and migration to Datadog from legacy APM tools.
  • Experience with Cloud Cost Observability (FinOps) and Datadog Security Monitoring (Cloud SIEM).
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or AWS/Azure Solutions Architect Professional credential.
